“Dance is a poem of which each movement is a word.” If dancer/potential spy Mata Hari is correct then The Space Dance and Arts Centre must have had tomes written across its well-worn floorboards in the decade since it opened.
The Space offers a melange of styles to learn, from the expected ballet and contemporary to more unusual offerings like capoeira and same-sex ballroom. There’s a sprinkling of yoga, theatre sports and Mata Hari’s preferred belly dancing in the mix too.
However if you want to be a jive bunny, The Space’s founder Deb Cantoni is your go-to girl. Deb has taken home trophies from every major modern jive competition in the country and won the biggest in the world. Co-owner Ariel Bud’s artistic expression takes another form. He is immersed in theatre and comedy whether producing, writing, directing or performing.
Both must feel at home on the stage. Essentially The Space is just that; featuring nine dance studios, several performance spaces and a lounge suited to art exhibitions. Here is just the space in which to learn your Paso Doble form your Argentinean Tango.
