Commercial Road is a place with dual identities, changing its personality from day to night. During the day the place to be is the historic Prahran Market. With over a century’s history under its happily tightening belt, the market offers everything from rare mushrooms, organic and local fresh fruit and veg and baked goods that are rather less virtuous. Some stallholders have a cult following with devotees swearing not to shop anywhere else for their eggs, coffee beans or artisan, daily bread. In terms of dining, Commercial Road is full of guilty pleasures. It offers everything from French pastries, to Melbournians beloved tradition of scoffing too many dumplings, to the necessary indulgence of a sneaky late night kebab.
