Sometimes you’ve just gotta try something a little different. So next time you’re heading to Chapel Street, why not explore a little further and take a stroll down to Forrest Hill Precinct? You’ll stumble across a few known favourites and discover something completely new. Now, that’s totally worth the extra footsteps.

If you’re not yet convinced, here’s our pick on what to do and which hidden gems you must checkout!
Wine & Dine

The bar & restaurant below the Olsen is an absolute gem! Parked on the corner of Chapel and Daly Streets, Spoonbill is the perfect spot to catch up with friends, or take the lover for date night. The menu changes with the seasons so there’s always something new on offer, but our favourite thing about Spoonbill is the people watching from the street site tables. Grab yourself a glass of wine and watch Chapel Street roll by. Perfection.

637/641 Chapel St, South Yarra

Steak, wine and mood lighting? Heelllllooooo romance. Steer dining room is an elegant dining house that’s perfect for date night, group catch-ups and even business dinners. Plus, the slightly hidden away location will make you look like a person in the know!

Grab a kudos deal at Yarra Lane’s tasty Japanese joint. Spend no more than $30 on lunch for you and a friend and I guarantee you will not need dinner. Quality fresh meals delivered with a smile makes Yo Sumo a hot pick for a quick take-out after a long day. The Miso soup is a must try!

If you’re a local, you know Two Birds, One Stone. It’s a South Yarra fave and we’ve even heard rumours that Windsor-siders will cross High Street just to get there. The coffee is always good, the interiors are beautiful and there’s always a super friendly vibe to the place. Next time you’re around, make sure to pop in. You’ll be happy you did.

12 Claremont St, South Yarra

If you haven’t heard of the new brunch madam in South Yarra, you either hate having a good time, or you live North Side. In either case, you probably won’t like it here. It’s far too pink, the vibes are WAY too Palm Springs and you probably hate boozy breakfasts – so $30 bottomless cocktails with brunch won’t interest you at all. We won’t even get into the affordable prices, the ridiculously good Asian influenced plates of deliciousness or the really, really good coffee. You shouldn’t visit House of Lulu White. You’ll have far too good a time.

4 Yarra St, South Yarra VIC 3141

If you’re anything like us, you’ll find that it’s a super pain in the ‘peach emoji’ to find a great place to take your vego, cross fitting, no gmo, organic only, gluten intolerant mate for lunch or brunch. Well, Simple Seed might just change all of that! Simple Seed is all about fresh, seasonal fruit & veg turned into wholesome salads, soups, smoothies and raw desserts. It’s all hand crafted and made from scratch so they know that there are zero nasties. And just FYI, it’s all delicious too!

Shop 4/9 Yarra St, South Yarra VIC 3141

A specialty coffee, doughnut and brunch bar that makes food so pretty it makes us cry. Well, maybe not cry, but totally weep with delight. It’s a pop in, take the goods away kinda joint that’s open Monday to Friday. Perfect if you’re a local at South Yarra Station across the road. It’s a well known fact that doughnuts makes Vic Transport 100% more bearable.

This super trendy vegan cafe makes it easy to pick up a nutritious and straight up tasty meal… that just happens to be vegan! It’s affordable, accessible and exciting – and let’s be fair, those aren’t three words that you’d typically pair with vegan food is it? Plus, you’ll feel amazing knowing that the coffee used at V. is ethical and the farmers growing the green beans are paid a fair price and work under fair conditions. Now that’s something to get behind.

Sweet Treats

And by sweet, I mean Zumbo sweet. It’s the home of neon lights and sugar delights. Plus, the crew there who peddle the sweet baked goods are a god damned pleasure. We’d just pop in for a chat if we could, but let’s be honest, we wouldn’t be able to leave the building without a Zumbaron in hand.

14 Claremont St, South Yarra

Just a hop and skip from the iconic South Yarra intersection of Toorak Road and Chapel Street you’ll find irresistible deliciousness. What on earth is cryotherapy? The practice of exposing your whole body to electrically cooled air (below -110 °C) for a brief period of time (approx. two to three minutes) in order to trigger physiological responses in the human body. Research suggests that stripping down and freezing your knockers off can be an effective preventive and proactive measure for inflammatory and age-related diseases of the body and brain. Sounds crazy but Chapel Street locals are loving it!
