October arrived with force and brought with it a killer group of new businesses for ol’ Chaps! So what do we have this month? An all day gourmet eatery (and drinkery), a new era for the Saigon Sally site and a beer bar in South Yarra that’s dragged a little Windsor up north.

South Yarra has a new local & we’re a lot pumped about it. Tim Martin, the former head chef at The European has opened a 40 seat day to night cafe/bar/restaurant on Claremont Street to much celebration.

It’s a little industrial, with bright artwork – so essentially everything a sleek South Yarra cafe ought to be. The food, as you would expect, is delicioso. The menu includes french toast with oat and almond crumble if you like it sweet, and brown-butter hollandaise eggs bene if you’re the savoury type. Lunch? They’re serving up fancè toasties, and dinner is all about steak. Oh, and cocktails start as early as 10am, so it’s the perfect place for a boozy brunch with the #brunchsquad. We’ll be sitting outside in the summer sun, sipping on coffee and patting the local pooches. We’ll see you there!

You may have wandered passed this room of wonder in Prahran and wondered WFT?! We did too, until we ventured inside. While a little cray, it’s filled with some serious goods. Unique is probably the best way to describe Connection 250 & it’s perfect if you’re looking for a gift for that person who has everything, or if you need to add a little personality to your home.

BKK

We’re going to be honest, seeing the end of Saigon Sally was a little sad – but the venues revamped BKK is healing our hearts and just opened the doors.

Saying goodbye to Vietnam, BKK is all about Thailand and named after Bangkok’s airport. It’s still owned by the crew at Commune Group (Hanoi Hana & Tokyo Tina) so it’ll obviously be a banger.

The menu includes coconut braised lamb shoulder & chilli doughnuts. We’re a little mad at ourselves for not visiting yet – but’ll happen ASAP!

The fourth instalment to Chef Paul Wilson’s behemoth Wilson & Market all day cafe, restaurant and now party hotspot is The Terrace Bar. Fine wine & craft beer by the carafe or glass as well as super tasty cocktails can be enjoyed under the retractable roof fronting Commercial Road. If you get a little peckish, there’s Mediterranean flatbreads, seasonal salads and urban street foods. While we can imagine The Terrace being a Summer hit, the design makes it just as good leading into Autumn and even Winter.

Bess Bar

If you’re wandering Northside on Chapel Street and you’re deathly in a need of a cold brew, you’ll probably want to stop into Bess Bar. A grungy/cool beer garden that just popped up shop in South Yarra. While it isn’t somewhere you’d sip on a fruity cocktail, when it comes to an ice cold pint, it’s right on the money! Think of it as a little bit of Windsor, that’s escaped and crossed ‘The Wall’ between Northside and Southside on Chapel Street.

Our old mate Oscar opened with little fuss, but it reeeaaaally didn’t need to! Super cool glasses and sunnies, that not only look #onpoint they’re 100% affordable! Pop in if you need a new look in the spectacle department, but you don’t want anything too expenny.
