Chapel Street is an ultimate in world-class fashion, beauty, business services, bubbles and bites! So can I get a ‘hell yeah!’? ‘Cause we’ve got some new friends in town and boy are they delivering the goods.
What’s new to Chapel Street you ask? …
A fab new bar/bottle-o has landed on the Windsor end of Chapel Street. Named after the bird who, if followed in the desert, will lead you to the nearest watering hole. Galah is championing local produce and low intervention natural wines.
Grab a small batch bottle from the shelves, scurry upstairs and take a sip (or ten) in a high-ceiling warehouse setting. This joint used to be a panel beater’s storage space, but you’d never guess looking at the leather and velvet upholstered booths or the sultry cocktail menu. Sip on an Aussie inspired aperitif – maybe the Outback Sheila (finger lime and saltbush margarita) – then tuck into a cheese platter followed by kangaroo loin for something larger. Plus, there’s resident DJs on the one’s and two’s throughout the week. Get on it guys.

The beautiful heritage Prahran Post Office building now houses a 1940’s New York style steakhouse. Enjoy red carpet treatment while you sip on craft beers or pair their extensive range of whisky and wine with a fillet that just melts in your mouth. Graze from shared dishes with premium cold meats, or nibble on pork croquettes or confit lamb ribs. Sweet tooth? Indulge in their dark chocolate mousse with caramelized hazelnuts, truly the best ending to the best steak. There’s also various menu items vegetarian and pescartarian friendly and a cocktail list to boot. Bottomless brunch is from 12 to 3 pm and will only set you back $49.
With a name that pays homage to Greville Street’s rocking 1970’s scene, in particular, AC/DC (Angus & Bon refers to the band’s guitarist, Angus Young, and singer Bon Scott), these guys are ticking all the right boxes!

On the border of South Yarra and Prahran you will find a new local, and by God we are excited. Chinacy (a portmanteau of the words ‘’Chinese’ and ‘harmony’) is a day to night restaurant/bar on Chapel Street. They’re serving up Chinese yums with Australian attitude and they’re everything a stylish fusion eatery ought to be.
The food, of course, is phenomenal. The menu features Chinese comfort foods like Chinacy’s take on Hainanese chicken and plump pork belly with warming spices. Crowd pleasers such as hand crafted pork bun dunked in piquant X.O. and coconut panna cotta for something sweeter. Happier hours are from 4 to 6.30pm everyday, making it the perfect spot for a boozy autumn afternoon. We’ll be inside, amid the positive Feng Shui, sippin’ on a Rose MarTEAni or maybe a Beijing Bellini. See you there!

We’re going to be honest, seeing the retirement of BKK was a little sad – but the venue’s unveiled Alter Dining is healing our hearts and has just opened it’s doors. Saying goodbye to Thailand, Alter is all about modern Australian food, accented by fragrant, clean and contrasting flavours. Still owned by the crew at Commune Group (Hanoi Hannah & Neptune), so it’ll obviously be AH-mazing. A succinct menu composition created by head chef Sean Judd (Nahm, Longrain, Chin Chin) offers a la carte or a $65 tasting experience including whipped cod, slow cooked duck leg and pineapple tart tatin. Yum!

Stroll into what looks like a cosy, well-lit cafe and follow the clues – the ‘Staff Only’ sign or the neon blue Japanese traffic light – as you traverse into the shadows of a tiny speakeasy bar. This Prohibition-themed secret is full of mystery. No official drinks menu. Instead, ‘Pick your Promise’ cards. Choose from ‘adventurous’, ‘careful’ or ‘conservative’ and your new bartender friend will curate a drink just for you. This sounds promising.
