PROVOCARÉ Festival of the Arts has returned for it’s sophomore year, and boy does the line up look tempting. Chapel Street is a renowned cultural hub, a premier destination for fashion, entertainment and culinary delights.

Across 10 days and nights Chapel Street will be transformed into a provocative world of captivating art, music and theatre during the coldest month of the year. Not to worry, this festival will warm your soul in more ways than one.

A jam packed line-up featuring some of the world’s most intriguing talents will arouse your senses in ways you never expected.

To help you decide, here are 9 must-see events during PROVOCARÉ Festival of the Arts. 

Let go of your inhibitions, grab a shot of something strong and be provoked, be challenged, be aroused by “CLUB PROVOCARÉ”! The sexiest and sassiest show in Melbourne, where everything glitters and anything goes! With hilariously filthy original songs, breathtaking circus and killer burlesque acts from around the globe, including drag superstar Karen from Finance and Japan’s naughtiest export the gorgeous Yusura. This is one show you won’t want to miss!

Described by the British Theatre Guide as “the evil love child of Liza Minelli and Jim Carrey” Reuben Kaye will dazzle audiences with a spectacular set of songs, big notes and glorious camp. Recently nominated for a Helpmann award and Best Cabaret prizewinner at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Festival, Kaye’s one man show for PROVOCARÉ will have you in stitches.

David Bromley’s ‘Whatever You Dream’ exhibit will feature art work on exclusive car brands such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, Rolls Royce and more. Oxford Street South Yarra will transform into an open-air exhibition like no other. Bromley gave himself permission, would you do the same?

An acclaimed production, director Zebastian Hunter conducts elite graduates from the National Institute of Circus Arts, performing skills from contortion to tissue, tight wire and more. Empty Bodies is our journey from birth to death, examining our presentation of self through language and clothing. An enigmatic masterpiece and a must-see!

An adrenaline charged odyssey – The Death of Walt Disney is a supersonic portrait of the man who forever changed the American Dream. Aided by a pack of cigarettes, a litre of vodka, three actors and countless dead lemmings, Walt Disney reads you a screenplay he wrote. About his life. And his death. Written by Lucas Hnath, this stage show will change your perception of a household name.

Part photographers lair, part red light district, this rarely seen seedy underbelly of the image is the perfect place for a pre show drink. Enter the haze filled, red soaked Darkroom and admire images from provocateurs like Pierre Molinier, Daido Moriyama, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Hideka Tonomura and Joel-Peter Witkin as they hang freshly developed around you.

No cameras allowed, but find yourself a secluded corner. If you’re lucky you might meet our photographer, who’ll snap a cheeky Polaroid for you to take home.

Free again for PROVOCARÉ 2018! EcoCaddy provides a unique, reliable and fun service that will allow Chapel Precinct visitors to easily get around one of the most famous streets in the world! The EcoCaddy fleet of bamboo-bodied rickshaws (hybrid-electric passenger tricycles) are operated by well-trained, fit, courteous and knowledgeable local riders (Caddies).

Avoid walking in the rain and hail a ride to a show, gallery or bar for the duration of the festival.

Chapel Street is again teaming up with local art galleries during PROVOCARÉ to host a guided expedition, shining a light on our local contemporary art scene. Over the two consecutive weekends of the festival, attendees will discover the art in the galleries and laneways which stretch along Chapel Street through Windsor, Prahran and South Yarra.
