The music scene on Chapel Street is world class & seeing music performed live will always be the best way to take it in. New and old. Whether you’re standing shoulder to shoulder, comfortably seated, or leaning up against the bar – there’s nothing like experiencing live music.
Here are a few gig spots that are a bit different & the straight up classics.
A Bit Different
A theatre and music powerhouse in the heart of the precinct. Chapel Off Chapel has been producing and presenting innovative and incredible independent and professional theatre, live music, jazz, comedy, cabaret, dance and art for years.
There’s something different to watch every week of the year. Musicians love playing here for the setting in the glorious, intimate chapel – the natural, beautiful acoustics, the right there with you audience set-up, and just the feels, you know?
Put it this way, Coldplay and Foo Fighters have played here. If you haven’t taken in a live show at Chapel Off Chapel, you might not be fully aware of what’s on your doorstep!

Straight Up Classics
These are the ones you knew about, but might have forgotten just how great they are. You’ll head there just because, and take in some of the best mainstay background artists. But sit and listen a while and you’ll realise there’s a good reason these established musos have kept the job for so long.
Ok, but hear me out here folks. You love the place for the kitschy décor, the (recently upgraded) menu, and the full bar of beverages. But you’ll love it even more if you get down to TGI Fridays for a Sunday arvo session. There are great acoustic artists including the brilliant Tommy Rando and other acts, bringing the best top 40, and classic covers to your lazy Sunday.

The tunes flow as freely as the beers at Melbourne’s original Irish pub. But don’t be put off by the ‘Irish pub’ title – the live music pumps all weekend in the classic ‘pub acoustic’ style. It’s not all laid back, you can also catch one of the most successful cover bands in Melbourne, the legendary Adam 12 upstairs!
With live music, four nights a week, ‘Bridie’s’ is a pure pub, in every sense of the word.

Revs is a local legend for a reason, and live music is part of the story. Live music and DJs pump out tunes almost all week long. Revolver is a melting pot of musical styles, with original live music from up and coming rock bands, great tunes in the back bar and bangin’ beats in the ‘in the cage and on the stage’.
Take a risk, head to an album launch, grab the band’s new single and discover some of the most interesting music Melbourne has to offer.

Go and celebrate all things American with the festive bunch at Soda Rock! Since 1994, these guys have been serving authentic American diner food to Melbourne. Originally opened as Johnny Rockets, Soda Rock occupied the historic Capitol Bakery building on the corner of Chapel St & Toorak Rd, South Yarra. Now open in the iconic Jam Factory. With shows from The Tennessee Two and Elvis Tribute Shows regularly occurring, the classics are infinite.
