With the warmer months fast approaching, Melbournians will soon turn their attention to the best places to keep cool over summer. But for some lucky South-siders, they won’t need to move further than Chapel Street, with a swathe of ingenious pool concepts putting the tired old 25-metre lap pool to shame.
Here are our top 3!
Nestled just past Toorak Road, The Olsen’s clear glass-bottomed pool is the perfect place to people-watch over Chapel Street throughout the summer months. Partially undercover, the elevator opens to an urban oasis, revealing an expansive sun room beside the pool, complete with a staircase leading up to the rooftop terrace. The clever design means the pool water – and those swimming within it – is even visible from passers-by below! So best to keep any nudie dips for strictly after dark.
An oldie but a goodie, the Prahran Aquatic Centre is THE place to hang out over summer. Even better, each year the annual ‘Summer Sundays by the Pool’ sessions boast an exciting lineup of local DJs and is one of Prahran’s best kept local secrets.
A new entrant to the list this year, Chapel Street’s most sought-after new address, 661 Chapel St offers future residents a stunning 25m lap pool which is cantilevered over the building. The pool will gloriously hang over the structure’s entrance once complete in time for summer, boasting never-to-be-built out views of the Yarra River and Melbourne city skyline, to make residents feel like they are literally swimming while suspended in the sky.
