Melbourne’s Spring Carnival is fast approaching, and you want to make sure you’re looking like a 10, fellas! The food, social outings & fashion makes it my favourite time of year. Whether you’re attending one or all four of the race days, my advice would be get your outfits sorted NOW.

The carnival kicks off with my favourite day, AAMI Victoria Derby Day – commonly known as the ‘black & white’ one. It’s the event to be seen at, with race goers worldwide flying in to attend.

Having a strict monochrome dress code makes the choice of what to wear a definitive & quick one, although you don’t want to look boring! I’ve put together the 5 shops you’re guaranteed to find yourself a killer kit & NOT look like a douche…

Derby Day

Derby Day is all about being bold, and with a strict monochromatic theme, experimenting with fabrics & textures can always make you stand out from the pack. Jack London currently has a sleek black velvet jacket, that for the more conservative guy can be paired with a black pant, or for the more daring, a white. Rock it with a crisp white shirt, clean shoe & you’ll be sure to win best dressed.

Derby Day

If there’s a store that can nail a houndstooth blazer, it’s Calibre. Having won best dressed in one myself last year, you’re guaranteed to receive all of the compliments in their current ‘Micro Hounds Stretch Blazer’.
For the risk taker, I couldn’t recommend pairing it with their ‘Monochrome Loafer’ enough. The Italian leather will take your races fashion experience to whole other level & the quality is second to none. Also, think of the Instagram opportunities.

Derby Day

A shade of grey is always a welcomed change from the sea of black & white outfits at Derby Day. For a man that wants to mix it up without being too bold, a light grey pant & jacket will do your Derby Day outfit justice. The Politix ‘Parker’ suit can be matched with either black or white shirt, tie & patterned or plain pocket square.

Derby Day

It may be your favourite shoe shop, but Aquila is not to be overlooked when it comes to formal menswear! You can’t go wrong with their classic ‘Austin Black Suit’. If you’re willing to spice up the traditional look, a textured tie is always an option. My personal favourite shoe from Aquila is the ‘Francis Black’, the quality is second to none, with the double tassel adding a European edge to any look.

Derby Day

I recently came across Declic’s ‘Regal Grey Velvet Jacket’ in store & immediately thought of what a Derby Day game changer this is! If worn with a white pant, black loafer & white pocket square, you may get lucky… on Fashions On The Field of course!

With the above options, Chapel Street is sure to have you looking your best this Derby Day. Tag us @Chapelprecinct & if all else fails, just remember, BLACK & WHITE!
